Technically it cannot take advantage of the higher octane of the more expensive gasoline. On hot days I notice mine seems to have less tendency to make a spark knock noise, run smoother at low engine speeds and idle better with 89 octane in. In our part of the country that is the middle grade. If you had raised the compression or could advance the ignition timing on the run then the higher octane numbers might be useful. Try it on 87 and see how it runs then try a tank of 89 and see if you can tell a difference. Gasolines are similiar in base gasoline, but each company has their own additives and modifiers and some work better than others in any given engine. Try changing brands of 87 to see of one works better for you than another. Just keep the shiny side up.
